The Nanung Peace Initiative (NPI) proudly celebrates a significant achievement in its journey toward advancing peace, dialogue, and political engagement. Our Executive Director, Mr. Alhassan Somed Dasana, has successfully graduated as a Trained Political Advisor for United Nations (UN), African Union (AU), and ECOWAS Peacekeeping Operations.
This prestigious milestone was attained through the Political Advisor Course for Peace Operations in Africa, a specialized capacity-building program designed to equip participants with the critical knowledge and skills needed to serve in political advisory roles within peace missions across the continent. The course was jointly organized by the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC) and the Federal Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Austria.
The overall objective of the training was to strengthen the effectiveness of peace missions in West Africa by preparing highly competent Political Advisors who can support mission leadership, facilitate strategic decision-making, and engage constructively in complex political environments particularly in conflict and post-conflict contexts.
Bringing together 20 selected participants from nine West African countries, the course fostered regional cooperation, cross-border understanding, and deepened professional networks across the sub-region. Participants underwent intensive sessions on conflict analysis, mediation, negotiation, political reporting, and stakeholder engagement all essential tools for building sustainable peace.
As a proud representative of Ghana and the Nanung Kingdom, Mr. Dasana’s participation marks a new chapter in NPI’s commitment to aligning local peacebuilding efforts with global standards. We commend him for this outstanding accomplishment, which significantly enhances NPI’s leadership in the areas of diplomacy, peace operations, and institutional development.
The training has:
• Deepened NPI’s understanding of global peacekeeping frameworks,
• Sharpened our capacity for policy and political advisory work, and
• Strengthened our ability to engage effectively with stakeholders including traditional rulers, security agencies, government bodies, and development partners.
The knowledge and experience gained are already reflecting in our day-to-day initiatives shaping our strategies, refining communication, and elevating the quality of our peacebuilding interventions across the Nanung Kingdom, other sister kingdoms, and Ghana as a whole.
As we move forward, NPI remains committed to applying international best practices to local challenges, striving for a more peaceful, united, and resilient society.
