The Nanung Peace Initiative (NPI) joins the rest of the country in mourning the tragic loss of lives in the military helicopter crash that occurred earlier today near Adansi Akrofuom in the Ashanti Region.

The Z-9 Ghana Air Force helicopter, reportedly traveling from Accra to Obuasi, went down under unclear circumstances. Eyewitnesses described hearing a loud explosion, followed by thick smoke rising from the forested area. Rescue efforts by both military and civilian teams were swift, but sadly, all aboard the aircraft perished.

Among the victims were public officials and service members, including:

1. Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence
2. Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister for Environment
3. Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator
4. Dr. Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman, NDC
5. Mr. Samuel Aboagye, Former Parliamentary Candidate
6. Squadron Leader Peter
7. Flying Officer Twum Ampadu
8. Sergeant Ernest Addo

While all lives lost are deeply valued, we at NPI extend particular respect and heartfelt sorrow for the dedicated military crew members, whose service, courage, and sacrifice embody the highest ideals of national duty. Their memory will forever remain in our hearts as symbols of valor.

As the President of the Republic prepares to speak to the nation, we stand in solidarity with the Ghana Armed Forces, the bereaved families, and all citizens in this difficult time.

We bow our heads in sorrow but lift our hearts in prayer.
May their souls rest in perfect peace. May Ghana rise united in grief and stronger in purpose.
